Packaging and Shipping Scales and Balances for Repair Service

Do you want to ship your scale or balance in for service for calibration or repair service? AAA Weigh has many customers that send in their equipment from all over the country for service at our San Fernando and Ventura, California facilities.

Packaging and shipping the scales correctly is essential so that repair or calibration issues are not compounded by shipping damage due to poor packaging. Here are some tips to ensure your scales and balances arrive safely at AAA Weigh.

  1. Try only to use original factory packaging. Many customers throw away their box when they receive a new scale or balance, but storing your box in case it ever needs to be shipped or transported is a great idea. Original factory packaging is engineered with safety in mind, and it contains foam and inserts designed to keep your equipment safe on a long journey. If you do not have an original box, make sure you use a box that is considerably larger than your scale or balance, so there is enough room to put enough packing foam, bubbles, or popcorn to ensure a safe ride to us. You can also contact us if you want to buy a box. We have a large selection of new and used boxes available for purchase or to borrow for the duration of your scale service. Contact us for details
  2. Only pack one scale or balance per box, and do not stack scales.
  3. Remove the platform and weighbridge and store it underneath the scale with the power supply, which reduces the chance of load cell damage by a shock load.
  4. Include all accessories except the draft shield. Technicians will test the a/c adapter to ensure it supplies the proper voltage to your scale or balance, and other peripheral equipment can sometimes contribute to the service issue, so it is nice to have everything to test.
  5. If your balance includes a fixed draft shield that cannot be removed, please use the original factory packaging or contact AAA Weigh to see if we can send you a box that will accommodate your balance. If you can remove the glass draft shield, please do so. It is typically not needed for repair.
  6. Bubble wrap your scale and include 3 to 4 inches minimum of packaging on all sides of the scale. Top, bottom, left, and right. Store the power supply and weighbridge underneath the scale or balance.
  7. When possible, put the box in a bigger box with more packaging.
  8. Always include a packing slip with your contact info so we know who to contact for approval when your scale evaluation is complete. Include company name, contact name, phone number, and email.

Make sure to contact us with any questions about your scale or balance service. Thank you for trusting AAA Weigh with your weighing equipment service. We look forward to serving you.
